Chuks Okocha in Abuja
The official website of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) hacked in the early hours of Saturday, thereby making inaccessible, has been restored.
This was confirmed to THISDAY by the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Kayode Idowu.
However, in spite of Idowu’s statement that the website has been restored and made more secure, when THISDAY visited the website, www.inecnigeria.org, it displayed the name of the hacke, Nigeria Cyber Army, that posted a cartoon of President Goodluck Jonathan and the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari in a football pitch.
According to the Chief Press to the INEC Chairman, “Yes, it was hacked but we have restored it and it is much more secure than before.”
When asked the implication the hacking for the elections, he said that the hacking has no effect as it was immediately restored.
When THISDAY visited the website again, it had been restored as it displayed all activities of the commission online.
